Mr Aeneas Chapinga Chuma is currently the interim Director for the UNAIDS Regional Support Team for Eastern and Southern Africa based in Johannesburg, South Africa.
A national of Zimbabwe, Mr Chuma is a highly experienced international civil servant and economist who has served in a variety of global roles and in various regions over a period of thirty years within the United Nations Development System.
Mr Chuma served as the Resident Coordinator and Resident Representative of the United Nations in Zambia, Liberia and Kenya and was the UN Deputy Resident Representative in Mozambique, Uganda and the Sultanate of Oman.
In November 2012, United Nations Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon appointed him a Deputy Special Representative for Consolidation of Democratic Governance of the United Nations Mission in Liberia (UNMIL).
During that assignment, Mr Chuma also served as the United Nations Resident Coordinator, Humanitarian Coordinator and UNDP Resident Representative.
Mr Chuma was appointed as ILO Assistant Director General and Regional Director for Africa 2014–2017. Mr Chuma is a macro-economist by training and started his professional career with the Reserve Bank of Zimbabwe in the 1980s.
