Not Me, Not Mine: Women, Girls and HIV

2 July 2012

The photography essay titled “Not me - Not mine” consists of portraits of HIV-positive women from Namibia and South Africa taken by the photographer Leonie Marinovich.

In an effort to highlight the exceptional vulnerability to HIV of women and girls in Eastern and Southern Africa, UNAIDS has commissioned a comprehensive photography essay that intimately explores the interrelation between women and HIV. As a body of work the photography essay paints a vivid picture of the underlying factors that expose women to HIV infection. The photographs are accompanied by individual text narratives in the ‘voices’ of the women who relate how they navigate their lives as mothers, wives, professionals, students and sexual beings in the context of HIV.
